- Compliance with the obligations of participants in the Wholesale Market.
Wholesale Market
The Wholesale Market Administrator (AMM) is responsible for the operation of the National Interconnected System (SNI) and the administration of the wholesale market, operating in accordance with the General Electricity Law and its Regulations, as well as the Wholesale Market Administrator Regulations.
The National Electric Power Commission monitors and supervises the Wholesale Market in Guatemala, carrying out the following activities:
Monitoring the behavior of participants in the Wholesale Market.
Identification of non-compliance or atypical conditions that may jeopardize supply or the liquidity of the Wholesale Market.
Approval of commercial coordination and disqualification rules in the Wholesale Market.
Planning and monitoring of electricity markets.
Weekly monitoring of the national electricity market and international transactions.

En el Mercado Mayorista se puede comprar y vender energía eléctrica, potencia, certificados de energías limpias, servicios conexos y otros servicios. Allí se realiza transacciones libres según la oferta y la demanda.

Expansion plans
Expansion plans are strategies developed by the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Guatemala to expand the electricity generation and transmission system in the country. The objectives of these plans are:
- Anticipate infrastructure needs in the electricity sector.
- Interconnect primary energy sources with consumption centers.
- Promote efficiency in electricity production.
- Reduce and stabilize energy production costs.
- Achieve competitive electricity prices.

La Guía del Inversionista del Sector Eléctrico de Guatemala es un documento desarrollado por la Comisión Nacional de Energía Eléctrica y la Universidad del Valle de Guatemala en el marco de un convenio de cooperación educativa suscrito entre ambas entidades.
Este documento brinda una visión integral del entorno económico, técnico, normativo y operativo del mercado eléctrico nacional, facilitando la toma de decisiones de potenciales inversionistas locales e internacionales.
Guatemala cuenta con un entorno favorable para la inversión de energía, debido a su ubicación estratégica, abundancia de recursos naturales y una legislación que promueve la participación privada y establece un marco jurídico claro y competitivo.
